Equipment Transportation & Mobile Command Facility. A valuable
asset to our field research and investigation, is the 4x4 Land Rover. This
particular vehicle was originally a British Ministry of Defense, Army
radio communications truck (FFR - Fitted For Radio). It was then purchased
from the Army, and underwent some upgrades, including a hard-top for the
rear (replacing the canvass), and engine rebuild for unleaded fuel, and
the addition of overdrive with free-wheeling hubs. All of the specialized
24 volt electrics, have been left intact. Being a former military communications vehicle, it has been designed to provide additional power for maintaining additional batteries within the rear. Instead of an alternator, the vehicle has a large generator (90 amp, 2.4Kw), and a fully shielded ignition system - against emitting any RF interference. It is specifically designed, with the inclusion of a large oil radiator, to remain idle running for long periods - specifically to charge auxiliary batteries - or provide additional continuous electrical power. Therefore, such a system is ideal for powering the variety of communications and monitor equipment installed in the rear. Further details of the newly installed technology will be added to this page later. Specification NATO
Designation: Truck Utility FFR 3/4 ton, 4x4 Rover Series III
